I’m going to post, over the next three weeks, three short essays on how to write children’s books, and the mysterious and not so mysterious aspects of the business.
And that, I think, is one of the key things to understand. The writing process is a strange one, a tortured one, and is often conceived of romantically; and there’s many reasons why we should continue to think of it as such.
But the book world is also a business, and as a writer, you are a crucial part of that business, and it helps to have some idea of where you stand in relation to other writers and to the market as a whole.
